About Us

The Trash-d concept was developed as a response to our increasing awareness of the effects of global trading. While many organisations are making efforts to minimise their contribution to global warming and to improve the conditions of workers throughout the world; the reality for most western consumers remains shocking.

While there are many companies who care passionately about these issues the products they offer tend to be relegated to craft fairs and wellness bazaars. In order to bring about a real change we would have to capture the hearts of the most influential consumers with a product offering that first and foremost met their demands for quality, service and innovation.

In Trash-d we have created a business that embraces environmental, social and ethical trading while delivering a genuine alternative range of fashion and lifestyle products.

Our values

Individual expression We embrace the ethos of choice, creativity, invention and diversity.
Adventurous We encourage a willingness to explore, both physically & mentally and an eagerness to be involved and passionate.
Symbiotic We believe that the basis of all successful communities is co-operation and communication.
Authentic We ensure that our interactions are genuine and trustworthy and that respect for the planet, each individual, culture and faith, forms the core of our business.

Our Ethical practices
We at Trash-d have decided to put sustainability at the heart of our business ethos, so everything including our packaging, labelling and printing is environmentally friendly. Even our swing tickets are made of see paper so that they can be planted rather than thrown away! While our transport and distribution is sourced via a top-up process (vans already going in that direction) we have offset the emissions we create - just to be on the safe side!

About environmental responsibility
Climate change is one of the most pressing issues facing the planet - and one everyone can do something about. We are changing the climate with our actions, especially through emissions of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, which artificially warm the atmosphere of the earth. The effects of climate change include rising temperatures, higher sea levels, and more frequent extreme weather events such as floods. All of these are expected to become more severe. Future effects of climate change can be influenced by what is done now.
If everyone in the world lived like people in the UK, it's estimated that three planets' worth of resources would be needed to support us. The energy and materials wasted in the UK put pressure on the environment here and around the world.

Waste - a threat to us all
Like most developed countries, the UK currently uses more than our fair share of resources like fuel, raw materials and water. As the things people buy are often made elsewhere, our lifestyles don't just affect us here in the UK, they damage the environment in other parts of the world too. Developed countries need to move towards using only their fair share of the world's resources - this idea has been described as one planet living.

About social responsibility
In order to ensure that the products we bring you are manufactured in a socially responsible way; , we look for BSCI or WRAP certification the principles of which are:

* Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining are respected
* No discrimination is practised
* Child labour is prohibited
* Legal minimum and/or industry standards wages are paid
* Working hours are compliant with national laws and do not exceed 48 hours regular + 12 hours overtime
* There is no forced labour and disciplinary measures
* The workplace is safe and healthy
* The environment is respected
* There is a policy for social accountability
* There is an anti-bribery and anti-corruption policy
* Facilities comply with applicable customs laws
* Facilities maintain security procedures to guard against the introduction of non-manifested cargo into outbound shipments (i.e. drugs, explosives biohazards and/or other contraband).

Our Style
In 2009 we began a research project to establish just what 15-35 men and women wanted from a fashion retailer. Aside from the environmental and social issues we wanted to know what represented value and style. Their feedback was clear - a wardrobe of investment pieces - well cut, classically styled with contemporary details to give the clothes a real edge; teamed with a range of design-led accessories that could effortlessly take an outfit from dawn 'till dusk. The range would need to be comfortable, combining soft fabrics with a variety of interesting textures allowing an individual to create their own particular look from a range of key pieces.
We threw ourselves into the spirit of this brief selecting the softest of bamboo and organic cotton, while the repurposed nature of many of our products certainly offered those interesting textures! From tyres, seatbelts and recycled suede to silicone, organic jute and recycled PET bottles - it's hard not to marvel at what has been created.
Our search for edgy designers and master tailors has taken us far and wide resulting in beautifully made clothes that will stand the test of time.

Our Product Champions
Our Product Champions have been carefully selected to provide meaningful feedback on our product range; packaging; working practices and ethical policies. This group of discerning consumers is invaluable to our development process and as such contribute to our overall success.

We are frequently looking to increase the number of Product Champions particularly in specific locations. If you are interested in becoming part of our team please email us at info@trash-d.com
